Choosing a small teaching idea

The biggest mistake beginners make is trying to build a massive, complex app on their first try.

If your first idea is "a full learning management system with student logins, grading, and video hosting," you are going to get frustrated and quit.

Start small. Very small.

For your first app, you want a single-page tool that solves one specific problem. No logins. No databases. Just a simple, interactive experience.

Too Big

  • A full accounting simulator
  • A student grading portal
  • A multi-chapter interactive textbook

Just Right

  • A "Debit or Credit?" flashcard game
  • A simple ROI calculator
  • A 5-question terminology quiz

Your Task

Think of one tiny concept you teach. If you aren't sure how to turn it into an app, ask ChatGPT for help:

"I want to build a single-page interactive web app for my students to practice [CONCEPT]. Give me 3 ideas that are extremely small in scope. No logins, no databases, just a simple interactive experience on one screen."
